 himnyc.org is the official web site for HIM NYC and the Kiser family ministries. If you have had the opportunity to go to New York and participate in their outreach you know it is also the way they live… daily by faith raising eight children in New York City is not for the faint hearted. Doing so by faith, depending completely on God’s provision for daily needs, requires an unwavering commitment to a God who has promised to supply every need.
Three years ago Tom was praying late one evening about the future of their ministry at the time he was employed by one of the most luxurious hotels in Manhattan as a marketing analyst. As he communed with his heavenly Father about the prospect of leaving his good job and going into full-time ministry he could not escape the overwhelming prospects of providing for his family of 10 without a paycheck. Near the end of this time of prayer, he sensed the leading of the Holy Spirit was clear, and once again he laid the future of his ministry and family at the foot of the cross, completely surrendering to the masters will. The very next day, at the hotel, toward the end of the day his department manger called him into his office. With a genuine sense of regret, he proceeded to announce to Tom that his position at the hotel had been dissolved and that this would be his very last day on the job. The gentleman given the responsibility to break the news to Tom did so thinking it would be devastating but the very night before; God assured Tom that his plan was clear and that he would be faithful. While the news was indeed unexpected it wasn’t devastating at all. It was one more miracle in a story of miracles. To tell the story in its entirety would take pages and pages of writing and there simply isn’t room for that here. The primary elements of the Kiser’s outreach are: prayer station evangelism, discipleship of new converts and the equipping of believers for personal evangelism. The prayer station outreach serves as the primary ministry. Critical to this ministry is the participation of ministry volunteers. This has provided Church groups and students from Christian Schools and Bible Colleges with hands on opportunity for involvement in personal evangelism. Through the combination of these they have developed a growing network of contacts that continually provide open doors to expansion.
