April 2 - Updated message from Tom Kiser...
I apologize for the long delay in updating this page on our Mission House Project. We are so busy with training Evangelism Teams and taking them to the streets that it is very difficult to get to the hundreds of other items on our plate. We definitely need more full-time workers to help us keep up with all that God is doing. We praise God for the guidance he has been giving us and the provisions towards our Mission House's purchase that so many of you have sacrificially given. Thank you so much for continuing to pray and help us carry this burden. If you haven't heard we are hoping to purchase the house this year. Here is what has transpired in the last 6 months.
Our landlord called me before Christmas and asked me if I would consider paying him $900 more a month for rent to cover his heating bill and taxes. In return he promised to take the house off the market and give us until December 2007 to purchase the house and drop the purchase price from $620,000 to $599,000. We agreed to these new terms and are now paying $3000 a month rent.
While the house was listed for sale we had some marvelous answers to prayer that kept it from selling. The first time the Real Estate Agent wanted to show the house to some prospective buyers, Faith was in the hospital for a Hernia Operation. The prospective buyer didn't reschedule another visit. We were away the 2nd time the Agent wanted to show the house to some new buyers. The 3rd time he called to show the house I was in the hospital for a Appendectomy. At every turn God's providence made it impossible for us to show the house and every prospective buyer would not reschedule a new visit.
We did our best to work with the realtor and when he did bring some Jewish Ladies to view the house we showed them every aspect of the house. We did our best to help them know the houses great qualities. We told them it was the best house on the block because of the many renovations we had made to the property. When these ladies were away from the realtor and alone with me, they said in shock: "Why are you showing this house? You need this house!" I replied: "Because I am a Christian... Our landlord has been good to us... he needs to sell the house... we would like to buy it but don't have the money yet and so... we are not going to do anything to hinder him from selling it." Then I found out these Russian Jewish Ladies had gotten saved and were going to a Messianic Congregation. When they realized how God was using our ministry and the mission house, they were convicted that they should not buy it, they believed it was our house and we should get it instead. Thus, God helped us all through the uncertain time to trust him and never slacken off from hosting mission teams and continuing with reaching people on the streets. We never doubted his clear will for pushing ahead, we just didn't know how he would provide. It is wonderful that he says "fear not I am with thee." We simply trusted him as we scheduled teams months in advance that we would still be in the Mission House. God never fails!
Purchasing the Mission House is our only clear option. The Harvest Home building we sleep our mission teams in, is across the street. Those teams are trained and fed here in the
Mission House which is also where our family lives. God has been greatly blessing our ministry with mission teams. Every available weekend from now thru July 31st is filled with short-term mission teams. Most of the mid week dates are also taken. We must continue advancing on the Great call God has placed on our heart. Our ministry continues to grow and these facilities are vital as we pursue the advancement of God's Kingdom in New York City.
Now is the time to move forward and purchase the Mission House. Every month that passes $3000 is paid for rent that could be going on a mortgage and paying off the Mission House property. We do not believe it is good stewardship on our part to continue renting.
Our Hope International Mission Board does not feel God wants them to take on the responsibility of a mortgage of this size when they have so many other missionaries struggling to have enough support to carry on across the world. We understand and do not want to do anything that would hinder the financial status of any of the other Hope International Missions Ministries.
In order to insure the fiscal strength of our Parent Organization we have discussed our options with them and have agreed to set up a separate non-profit ministry that they will not be responsible for, which will hold the necessary mortgage on the Mission House and receive donations towards paying off the mortgage. We are in the process of setting up this entity. Please understand this is not a move to separate from Hope International Missions. We are still with HIM and plan to continue moving forward in our partnership. Those monies that have been donated through Hope International Missions toward the Mission House Project will still go towards purchasing the Mission House as designated.
Truly God has been doing great things! We are exited about moving forward with the better stewardship option of ownership rather than rent. We are convicted that we must move ahead. Please pray for the following important issues:
+The setting up of our Non-Profit 501c3 organization. This involves time, money and God's wisdom and grace. I must establish a Board and write a constitution which will ensure we continue carrying forward with the work that God has been blessing and the plans he has given us. This requires that we work thru many other legal processes to qualify for state and federal recognition.
+A three year commitment from donors that will equal the monthly mortgage. Then all funds that come in for our Mission House Project can go towards paying off the principle.
+Our continued partnership with Hope International Missions. Working alone we accomplish very little but God does great things when his people, led and empowered by his Spirit, work together to advance his Kingdom.
I encourage you to go to our new web site: www.himnyc.org. This ministry continues to grow and so we have redesigned our ministries web site and renamed it: HIMNYC.org. It will help you understand what God is doing and what the future holds. Not only do we have the material from our former Faith4Living web site but now you can view our new Evangelism Training videos, Prayer Station Evangelism pictures and other helpful materials on line. The web site is designed to inform you, answer your questions, and inspire you and others to be effective witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ. To view our web site click: www.himnyc.org

Tom Kiser writes... God is working! The landlord has given us more time to raise the money and needed funds are coming in. We do not want to borrow any money. We are trusting God for the entire amount. Let us continue praying! To record your pledge toward the Mission House Project Click Here!

We have been excitedly watching your site to see how God would arrange these affairs. At the beginning of the "God Size Miracle" need, God laid it definitely upon my heart and gave me a burden for the meeting of your need in this situation. Now what I must do is to remind Him of His never failing promises: "My God shall supply ALL your need. . . ." Be anxious for NOTHING. . . ." "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and ALL these things. . . ." We all as Christians have done our part; now comes God's part. Keep encouraged in the Lord. Now after the obedience of so many and their prayers, it is God's turn to work.
Our Reply 6/1/2006 7:58 AM:
Hello!
You are absolutely right!!! I totally understand what you mean by your burden for this situation. I felt and feel the same way. I believe you are absolutely right that we have done exactly what He wants us to do and now we will watch Him work and see His marvelous works! His timing is perfect! That’s what I’ve found out so many times. It is really exciting to be a part of what He is doing. Do you care if I post your comments on the web site without your name? I think it reflects what a lot of people are thinking and feeling.

Reply from Tom Kiser 6/1/2006 9:46 AM:
God bless you for your sacrifice.
It is not too late. Please send the check to HIM in Florida. Our landlord has not sold the house and there is still hope that we will be able to purchase it.
Please let the church know that we are so thankful for what they have done.
God has encouraged me that He is at work and we must hold steady and obedient as He works this miracle out.
Yours for Christ,
Tom
PS: God has been greatly blessing our ministry on the streets. I must leave in a few minutes with our Mission Team from Missouri. We will be praying with people in Spanish Harlem today.
